UKUBALISA IS NOW SHOWING ON THE 2ND FLOOR AT 111 LOOP ST. CAPE TOWN

With "Ukubalisa" GalleryOne11 aims to put the spotlight on narrative art and how this genre can serve as catalysts for social dialog.  Narrative art tells stories, relates insights and provides a visual voice to societal discourse and circumstance.   Each artist's "ibali '' or stories rendered in their unique style and mark making transports and beckons the viewer in a no- threatening almost playful manner to consider alternative perspectives and join the dialog.

Art in its diverse forms constitutes a distinctive means of communication, allowing for dialogues in formal, informal and culturally plural contexts within society. Art opens windows to understand social interactions. It provides an historical record of social evolution. Discussion about art and reflection of its impacts within contemporary social contexts could prompt us to reconsider questions of identity and social alignment. (Extract from paper presented in Lisbon Conference theme:  The Impact of Art as a Catalyst for Social Change)
