Transient a group show that reflect on the transient nature of life.

Transient is a reflection on the ever shifting transience of life and nature and the resilience it demands. Now showing at 111 Loop st. come meet the artists and join us for a farewell toast at GalleryOne11.

The only constant is change and cycles of emergence that reveal the other a collective sum of that that was. GalleryOne11 in colaboration with Marvol Gallery brings you TRANSIENT featururing Cathy Layzell, Michael Brauer, Alexander Levetan, Yasmine Yacoubi and Annamieke Engelbrecht  it is a nod to all the creatives that has supported GalleryOne11 over the past five  years. We are in a stage of transient transformation, embracing the fleeting experiences of life, and alternative living, through artistic interpretation.

My oil paintings, in their entire essence, stands in complete contrast to the instant digital world that is the internet.

Instant gratification, the need to experience fulfilment without delay, is universally consumed on a daily basis. Consuming that which is instant has become fundamental – instant information, instant communication and above all instant indulgence. Using pixelated images of YouTube videos on its lowest quality as inspiration, I create these layered and time consuming paintings as a challenge to my own impatient satisfaction seeking nature.

Alexander Levetan

“It is the process of discovery and revelation that is the basis of my artistic and aesthetic inspiration. This is my Pixelism.”

His works often add a unique perspective by focusing on and celebrating the seemingly quotidian and prosaic, making its' inner beauty visible to all. He is drawn to shapes, colours, and compositions, that are inherent in his photographs, drawings, and observations but not immediately apparent to the naked eye as they are so infinitesimally small. Levetan’s body of work, titled, “Pixelism” takes ordinary photographs and with the help of digital manipulation. he delves into the most minute of spaces, unearthing gems, and veering into crevices so as to project them onto a grand scale.

Cathy Layzell

“There is an element of unknowing and of surrender into possibilities that are beyond my control.”

By investigating the visual cues provided by nature, Layzell is able to perceive and translate the abstracted textures of foliage, air, and rocks and create an illusionary light in her work. Layzell’ s approach brings a perception of happiness and impressionism to her work that captures colour and light in an exceptional and profound manner. She embraces the concept of unconscious creation, following the poetic and simple notion that the image paints itself through her, stating that she is working with something that is greater than herself.

Michael Bauer sculptures

Michael Bauer’s work comes from the body of work The Shape of the moment and exclusive for GalleryOne11.

Intuition and spontaneity are key to Bräuer’s process. Instead of using plans or preliminary sketches, he rather let his immediate tactile experience of the clay guide the process. There is no preconceived idea of what a particular piece must look like and the highly immersive process of folding, wedging, molding and shaping clay gives direct shape to the final form. In this way, intuition pilots the process.

Yasmine Yacobi

“Each brushstroke is guided by her sensory experiences” - what she hears, sees, and touches she transcribes into her artworks.

Yasmine’s interest in art grew while she was studying psychology in France and established her long-lasting fascination with human nature and creativity. In time this enthusiasm in and for art grew and Yacoubi started to pursue her passion more seriously supplementing her knowledge with art workshops, residencies, and courses. She loves to collaborate with other artists and finds the bond of painting together as a wonderful way of encouragement.

Andrew Gibson

“I look into the full spectrum of light to deliver vibrant, jubilant paintings”.

His process of painting method is underlined by the limitless possibilities of applying skilfully the paint with its endless colour choice to create problems and then solve them to end up with something that is perceived as beautiful. Gibson’s work is a fragmentation of light that resonates with the transition of the seasons and evokes expressive landscapes of imagination.
